Okay, this question may seem dumb to some and heavy to others. Saw it on another forum and liked where it was going. So here's the rules: No personal attacks, you can debait but don't get out of hand about it. If you have an opinion feel free to state it but please be ready to back it up. I WILL hand out warnings for anything that I feel is a violation of the forum rulles without sending a verbal, and remember that this is a three strike system. Okay, have fun.

I say yes, you buy them, you have to do maintanance, and you are legally responsible for them. Lawfully they are yours too, if someone stole your dog they don't get a kidnapping charge, it's a property theft charge.

As far as I'm concerned, they are family. When it comes to political issues or legislation, they are property. That's the only way to retain the right to keep them.

Property. I care for them like they're family. But property rights protect my rights as a dog owner.

Property. My family is my BLOOD, period. And just to spice it up for those that answered as family, how quick are you to put down (kill) your pet, if they attaked your child?....compared to family.

I'd say that if your dog attacks your child, then it's a clear cut case of negligence on the parents part, regardless of the circumstances. Every dog owner should know their dog well enough to avoid that situation. If you don't, well you shouldn't have the dog around the kids. No responsible parent should take chances with their kids safety. If another family member attacked a child, I would call it the same thing: negligence on the parent's part. Bad things happen to kids every day because of the stupidity of careless parents.

I do not have children, so therefore, at this point in my life, my dogs are like my children to me. They are part of our family, but at the same time, they are our property. We are legally and financially responsibly for caring for them and for their actions, thus they are property. Beyond that it is up to an individual owner as to how they want to treat their animals.

I for one don't think that blood should be the sole definition of family. I have friends who are as dear to me as any family member, some even more so. An adopted child is no less your child than is a biological one. Family to me is defined by the those whom you choose to keep in your life and would do anything to protect. My dogs fall into that category.

Okay so here's my sad story heh.
I actually DO have a son. He's 10years old and lives with his adoptive family in Utah. Since my first experience having kids was NOT one I ever care to repeat I have dogs instead. They are my family, my kids, and really i rely on them for the bulk of my emotional relationship. I would consider them family

HOWEVER according to -law- dogs are property.Which is why BSL is so unconstitutional, the goverment cannot seize property without due corse. Not that that stops them.

My dogs are my property...I do love them and care for them as family (and I like them better than most people, even family). But they are still property.

And yes, if I have a dog that bites...it will be dealt with. If my child was to bite, although I cannot put him down (lol) he will be dealt with also.

I would still say yes.....but I also consider my son my property. Until he is 18 and is legally responsible for himself. Please do not misunderstand....I do love my son and my dogs as well, and they do hold a higher value then say my lawnmower (which is also propety, lol) but in the end I am responsible for the well-being and maintence of all things that belong to me.

I treat my computer like a baby... it's still mine. And I agree, my kid is my property till she's 18. If I'm responsible for it then it belongs to me.

Legalities aside? No, not at all. I think of my dog more as a teammate and an important part of the family. I can replace property but not a good dog.
